On Friday 2nd of October 2009 the combined younger youth club journeyed to Eaton to spend a fun filled weekend together. Eaton is found 180 km from Perth and so it took a two hour drive before we arrived there. The Eaton Scout Campsite which is the place we stayed at, is located along the beautiful banks of the Collie river approximately 8 km away from Bunbury.

When we first arrived on Friday afternoon there was a mad dash as everyone found a bed in either the girl or the boy dorms. As soon as we had found a bed everyone scampered out to find something to do. The main attractions were volleyball and square ball. We then had a meeting altogether in the main hall where the leaders sorted us into the groups which were red, pink, white and green. These groups were used to organise who was doing which chore each day and also helped with deciding teams for games. For the rest of the afternoon we pretty much had free time when we could explore the campsite on which we would be staying for the next few days. When the buzzer sounded we knew it was time for dinner so we all gathered in the hall where we could enjoy a barbeque. After dinner the games began. One of the games was a food auction. For this game we got in our groups and nominated a new person for each round, who would eat the food given to them by the leaders. They had to eat whatever food was given to them as fast as possible. Some of the foods handed out were an onion, tablespoon of vegemite, cup of rice, tin of baked beans, cup of soya sauce an egg and many more. Everyone felt a little sick after that game. We played a few more games before settling into bed.

Saturday morning we had bacon and eggs for brekky. After breakfast we all had free time for a while before a game of flag was started. Later in the afternoon we went to the beach for a sand castle competition; the winner of the sand castle competition was the group which built a giant thong. (see photos) When all the sand castles had been bashed over we moved on to the grass where we played a game of continuous cricket. After everyone including the leaders had gotten out we headed back to camp to have showers before returning to Bunbury for dinner. For dinner we enjoyed pizza in a park where we all sheltered from the freezing cold wind before heading to ten pin bowling. At ten pin bowling we played two games and then headed back home where we climbed into bed.

Sunday morning we all tumbled out of bed for brekky before heading to Bunbury church. When we returned to camp we held a discussion on the sermon and then had free time once again before heading to church again in the afternoon. For dinner we enjoyed some yummy soup and hot dogs. After dinner Mr Van Den Dolder came for a visit with his sons and Mr and Mrs P Jongeling came for a visit too. The games we played on Sunday night were pictionary, a scavenger hunt and a shaving cream game which turned into a big shaving cream fight. When everyone had cleaned themselves up we played some more games in the big hall near the dorms before going to bed.

Monday morning was Stephanie’s birthday! We had pancakes for breakfast and we all sang happy birthday to Steph. After brekky we all had to go to our dorms and pack up all our stuff and complete a list of chores such as toilet cleaning, dorm cleaning and dishes. When we had cleaned everything we had a little more free time before heading back home for another two hour drive. When we arrived at the church our parents were waiting to take us home and so we said goodbye to all our friends and the leaders and went home to catch up on all our missed sleep.

Camp was a lot of fun,

It was fun for everyone,

The games were cool,

The weather was quite good,

Ten-pin bowling was the best,

Although most of us didn’t get much rest,

We still had a wonderful time,

We all were sad to leave,

Now we are home again,

But we still have the memory,

Of good old camp Eaton.
